IWFA recently published a new window film study comparing window tint energy saving performance against other investments like air conditioning replacement, stucco installation, wall and roof insulation.  The study also took each of these possible energy efficiency projects and examined them in different Californian environments:

Northern Bay Area – moderate climate
San Diego – coastal climate
Riverside – inland climate
Sacrament0 – Central Valley climate

The frontiers of window tinting on homes and cars has been pushed further by Boeing’s introduction of personalized on-the-fly window tint adjustments within their new Boeing 787 aircraft.  Window seat passengers can choose their own darkness of tint desired through a push of a button.

This aircraft window tinting technology is provided by PPG Industries, a materials company based in Pittsburgh, PA.  Boing wanted to be able to push the envelope in providing a unique experience within their newest aircraft.

Utah tint law is pretty flexible compared to many states.  The current law requires 43% on front side windows, and any VLT percentage on the back side and rear windows.  That being said, the front side window requirement of 43% is more restrictive than 33 out of 50 other states.  Cindy Kern of Orem recently requested that the tint law be changed to allow darker tints in Utah as she found that she has skin cancer on the left

As part of Solutia’s, soon to be Eastman Chemical’s, Asian window film growth strategy, V-Kool Thailand reports change in management.   Dallas Douangdara is added as co-ceo, and Tommy Yeo has been installed as general manager.  The V-Kool team hopes to grow it’s Thailand window tint market share from its current 3-7% to 40% in 2014 by expanding not only it’s upscale positioning, but also expanding its mid-scale focus.

Mirae Nano Tech (english website) declared in a recent press release that it would be launching three new areas of business – retro-reflective film, GEF, and window film.   Mirae Nano has specialized in display component materials like optical films used in TV’s, monitors, and laptop computer screens.  Having risen from 1% market share in 2005 to 30% market share in 2010 and #1 in the world, this company is a true growth story.

This modern building of stone and glass houses Kansas University’s Center for Design Research.  Giving a place for meeting, lectures, and experiments in design for the University students, this building itself has non-standard roots.  The exterior stonework are byproducts of stone manufacturing:
