How dark can window tint be in Wyoming?

Darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT): the percentage of light that gets through. A lower number means darker tint.

Front side windows Must let in more than 28% of light.
Back side windows Must let in more than 28% of light. Any darkness is allowed.
Rear window Must let in more than 28% of light. Any darkness is allowed.

Tolerance: None is written into the law.

How reflective can tint be?

Front side windows
Must not be more than 20% reflective.
Back side windows
Must not be more than 20% reflective.

Other Wyoming tint rules

Restricted colors
Red, yellow and amber are not allowed on the tint strip at the top of the windshield. The law names no colors for the other windows.
Side mirrors
Dual side mirrors are required if the back window is tinted.
Film certification
Film manufacturers don't need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker
No sticker identifying legal tint is required.
Medical exemption
Get a certificate from the WYDOT Director with a signed statement from a licensed physician or optometrist. It allows 25% on the windows and 70% on the windshield below the top 5 inches, and lasts as long as the condition does or until the vehicle is sold (W.S. 31-5-962(m)).

Enforcement and penalties in Wyoming

Enforcement
Police can stop you for tint alone. No film on any window may reflect more than 20% of light, and applying illegal film is prohibited.
Penalties
A misdemeanor: up to $200 for a first conviction, $300 for a second within a year, and up to $500, 6 months in jail or both for a third (W.S. 31-5-1201).

Films of 28% VLT or lighter: legal on every window of a car in Wyoming. Darker films for the rear windows are in the full collection. All car window film.
