Idaho window tint law

How dark can window tint be in Idaho?
Darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT): the percentage of light that gets through. A lower number means darker tint.

How reflective can tint be?
- Front side windows
- Must not be more than 35% reflective.
- Back side windows
- Must not be more than 35% reflective.
Other Idaho tint rules
- Restricted colors
- No tint colors are banned.
- Side mirrors
- Dual side mirrors are required if the back window is tinted.
- Film certification
- Film manufacturers don't need to certify the film they sell in the state.
- Sticker
- No sticker identifying legal tint is required.
- Medical exemption
- Carry a written verification from a licensed physician that the driver or a passenger must be protected from sun or heat for medical reasons linked to past or current treatment. It allows 70% on the windshield and 20% on the windows, each plus or minus 3% (49-944(4)).
Enforcement and penalties in Idaho
- Enforcement
- Police can stop you for tint alone. Selling or offering to sell a vehicle with illegal tint is also prohibited.
- Penalties
- An infraction (49-944(6)); the fine comes from the court's infraction schedule.

Sources disagree: Some tint charts say SUVs and vans can have any darkness behind the driver in Idaho. The statute (Idaho Code 49-944) has no exception for them.
