How dark can window tint be in Nevada?
Darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT): the percentage of light that gets through. A lower number means darker tint.

- Front side windows
- The law does not mention reflectivity.
- Back side windows
- The law does not mention reflectivity.
Other Nevada tint rules
- Restricted colors
- Red and amber are not allowed on the tint strip at the top of the windshield. The law names no colors for the other windows.
- Side mirrors
- Dual side mirrors are required if the back window is tinted.
- Film certification
- Film manufacturers must certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your installer for certified film.
- Sticker
- No sticker identifying legal tint is required.
- Medical exemption
- Apply to the Nevada Highway Patrol with the Application for Window Tint Exemption (DMV form DO-200) and your physician's certification. If approved, carry the original in the vehicle. Official form or instructions (opens in a new tab)
Enforcement and penalties in Nevada
- Enforcement
- Police can stop you for tint alone. It isn't a moving violation, so no demerit points.
- Penalties
- The statute sets no amount; the fine is set by the court.
