Oklahoma window tint law

How dark can window tint be in Oklahoma?

Darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT): the percentage of light that gets through. A lower number means darker tint.

Front side windows Must let in more than 25% of light.
Back side windows Must let in more than 25% of light. Any darkness is allowed.
Rear window Must let in more than 25% of light. Any darkness is allowed.

Tolerance: Sources mention a 3% meter tolerance; we couldn't confirm it in the statute.

Must not be more than 25% reflective.
Back side windows
Must not be more than 25% reflective.

Other Oklahoma tint rules

Restricted colors
Red and amber are not allowed on the tint strip at the top of the windshield. The law names no colors for the other windows, and mirrored or mirror-like film isn't allowed on any window.
Side mirrors
Dual side mirrors are required if the back window is tinted.
Film certification
Film manufacturers must certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your installer for certified film.
Sticker
No sticker identifying legal tint is required.
Medical exemption
The Commissioner of Public Safety can issue an exemption for a vehicle you own or regularly ride in, with a written attestation from an Oklahoma-licensed physician. Apply with the DPS Window Tint Exemption Application. Official form or instructions (opens in a new tab)

Enforcement and penalties in Oklahoma

Enforcement
Police can stop you for tint alone.
Penalties
A misdemeanor punished under 47 O.S. 17-101. Sources report fines of $20 to $100 for a first offense and up to $500 for repeat offenses. We couldn't read the statute directly.
