How dark can window tint be in Oregon?

Darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT): the percentage of light that gets through. A lower number means darker tint.

Other Oregon tint rules

Restricted colors
Red, gold, yellow, amber and black film is not legal, and neither is mirror-finish film.
Side mirrors
Dual side mirrors are required if the back window is tinted.
Film certification
Film manufacturers must certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your installer for certified film.
Sticker
No sticker identifying legal tint is required.
Medical exemption
No permit: keep an affidavit, prescription or letter on letterhead from a licensed physician or optometrist in the vehicle, saying you or someone in your household needs darker tint. It covers the side and rear windows, not the windshield (ORS 815.221(5)).

Enforcement and penalties in Oregon

Enforcement
Installers must give you a certificate with the film's light and reflectance figures, kept in the vehicle and shown to police. The court may dismiss or reduce the ticket if you fix the tint afterward, or if you show a medical need at the time (ORS 815.222).
Penalties
A Class B traffic violation for drivers and installers (ORS 815.222).

Films of 35% VLT or lighter: legal on every window of a car in Oregon. Darker films for the rear windows are in the full collection. All car window film.
