Avery Dennison in September 2026: Gloss Lite PPF and Installer Certification

Avery Dennison had two pieces of window film news this month. It added a lower-priced clear paint protection film (PPF) to its Supreme Defense range, and it started a training and certification program for installers of its films for homes and buildings. Taken together with its launches over the past 18 months, they show a maker filling out everything an installer sells, not just vehicle wrap.

Supreme Defense Gloss Lite: a cheaper clear PPF

Announced on August 26, 2026, Supreme Defense Gloss Lite sits below the flagship Supreme Defense Gloss:

  • a clear, gloss film, 7.5 mil thick, wet-applied like the other Supreme Defense films;
  • a self-healing, water-repelling top surface, according to Avery Dennison;
  • a seven-year warranty.

Avery Dennison is aiming it at daily drivers, leased cars and fleets, and at shops running high-volume dealership programs or just starting to offer PPF. For a lease you'll hand back, or a car you'll keep a few years, a seven-year film may be all you need. If you'll keep the car longer, compare the warranty, the film thickness and the installer's own guarantee. Avery Dennison didn't give a price; installers set their own.

We couldn't find a technical data sheet for Gloss Lite yet, so we don't list lab figures such as gloss, stretch or adhesion. The published specs for the flagship film are on our Supreme Defense PPF page.

Training and certification for building film installers

On September 11, 2026, Avery Dennison announced a hands-on course and certification exam for installers of its architectural window films. The first session runs October 21 to 23, 2026, at the Belmont, Michigan headquarters of Wensco, a sign and graphics supplier.

  • Two days of hands-on training, with an optional certification exam on the third day, open to every skill level.
  • It covers Avery Dennison's safety films (8, 12 and 15 mil) and its solar films: reflective, dual-reflective, spectrally selective and neutral.
  • Installers who pass get a certification badge to show homeowners, contractors and architects.
  • Avery Dennison lists a 20% discount for booking the training and exam together, and says those who complete it get application tools and a 60-inch by 100-foot roll of film.

Building films only perform as well as they're installed, and the film has to suit the glass. For a homeowner or building manager, a maker's certification is one more way to check an installer, alongside references, insurance and the film's written warranty. Avery Dennison hasn't said whether certification changes its warranty terms, what the course costs before the discount, or when later sessions will run.

What it says about Avery Dennison

This is our reading of the company's recent moves, each linked in the sources below:

  • Car window film (February 2025): the Encore range in three tiers, up to the nanoceramic Encore Supreme IR.
  • Colour PPF (June 16, 2026): PrismaPro, a dry-apply coloured paint protection film installed like a wrap, with a 10-year warranty.
  • A second clear PPF tier (August 2026): Gloss Lite, below the flagship Supreme Defense Gloss.
  • Building film installers (September 2026): training and certification for the safety and solar films that came from Hanita Coatings, which Avery Dennison bought in 2017.

Avery Dennison built its name in this market on vehicle wrap film. In about 18 months it has added tiered car tint, tiered and coloured PPF, and now a program to grow the installer base for its building films. That's the shape of a maker trying to supply a tint or wrap shop's whole menu, the same ground XPEL, 3M and Eastman (LLumar and SunTek) compete on. Tiering, a cheaper film under a flagship, is a common way to win high-volume dealership and fleet work. Avery Dennison hasn't described its plans in these terms; this is what the launches show.
