Garware Hi-Tech Films and Lubrizol Plan to Make PPF Base Film in India

Garware Hi-Tech Films, the Indian company behind Global Window Films, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lubrizol to develop and make thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film in India. The deal was reported on September 23, 2026.

What was announced

  • Lubrizol brings its TPU technology, including its ESTANE TPU for paint protection film (PPF), and its materials know-how. Garware handles engineering, processing and manufacturing.
  • Garware is investing about ₹118 crore in a TPU film extrusion and manufacturing line, with about a quarter of that set aside for new product development.
  • The line is expected to be running by December 2026.
  • The first use is Garware's own paint protection film. The companies also named architectural, industrial and electronics uses.

Why it matters

TPU is the clear, stretchy, tough layer at the heart of modern paint protection film; the adhesive and the self-healing top coat go on either side of it. Garware says making the film itself will cut its reliance on imported TPU film, make its supply more secure and let it bring new products out faster. It also expects better profit margins. Lubrizol is a long-standing supplier of TPU for surface and paint protection films.

Outside India, Garware sells its films under the Global Window Films name, including Global's PPF range, Spectronium colored PPF and Windshield Pro+ windshield film.

What we don't know yet

An MoU is an agreement to work together, not a finished product. The companies haven't said which Global PPF products will use film from the new line, or when they'll reach buyers outside India.
